Kombu is the generic japanese name for various types of seaweed from the waters of northern japan.
Kombu seaweed contains very few calories and is very popular in Eastern diet. Of all the vegetables of the sea Kombu is the one that contains the highest amount of potassium. As this element helps to eliminate excess of sodium, kombu seaweed is effective in reducing inflammation. It also contains fucoidan, a type of polysaccharide which highlights its stimulating effect on liver cells.
It is effective in cleansing the blood and decreasing cholesterol levels. One gram of this seaweed a day provides a sufficient amount of iodine, which greatly helps the balance and proper functioning of the endocrine glands.
The waters of northern Europe where it is collected have many streams and, consequently, are very clean. For this reason they have been awarded the ecological certificate.
Kombu seaweed contains amino acids that act as mild stimulants of the mucous membranes and the lymphatic system. It lowers blood sugar levels and is beneficial for hypertension. It helps to recover normal body weight both in obesity and in weight deficiency. It also facilitates the absorption of nutrients in the body and is recommended for circulatory problems.
