According to the EFSA reports:
DHA is essential for the proper functioning of photoreceptors, present in the retina.
The retina is the tissue of the body that has the highest concentration of DHA, which is crucial for its formation in the fetus and in children. Adequate levels of DHA during pregnancy ensure greater visual acuity and better image processing.
But since the photoreceptors are renewed every day, supplementation with DHA is also recommended as an adult.
It has been investigated that affected subjects of retinitis pigmentosa cannot convert linoleic acid into DHA (Hoffman), so its supplementation is recommended.
Lutein and zeaxanthin are the most important anti-oxidants in the eye and are part of the carotenoid family. They protect humans against phototoxic damage. Lutein and zeaxanthin are found in the macula of the retina and in the human lens. They filter potentially toxic blue light and near ultraviolet radiation and play an important role in protecting against age-related macular degeneration (AMD).
Lutein and zeaxanthin are the only two carotenoids that have been identified in the human lens and protect us from increased lens density and the formation of age-related cataracts, thanks to their ability to control reactive oxygen species.
Zinc in high doses inhibits the degeneration of the macula that is an integral part of the process in AMD and helps prevent vision loss in affected patients. Zinc delays the subsequent progress of cataracts. Studies corroborate that zinc is required for optimal functioning of the optic nerve.
Oligen Vision provides the necessary nutrients for optimal eye health. Currently, DHA is being used to slow down any degenerative process in the eye, including degeneration of the macula, cataract formation, progression of myopia and glaucoma, and retinitis pigmentosa.
Individuals with dyslexia have problems with their retinas and difficulty processing visual information in the brain. Some researchers, such as B. Jacqueline Stordy of the University of Surrey, Guilford UK, have observed improvements in reading ability and behavior in dyslexics supplemented with DHA.
